(Visual Storytelling) – Deeper Dive Inquiry (1 of 4), Documentation of the Learning Process

my toolbox!

For the past few days, I have compiled all the footage I have recorded over the past 2-4 years. I’ve been finding videos from various places such as my USBS, cameras, and my iPhone, and I even have videos I’ve stored on my laptop that I’ve never used.

This whole process reminds me of just how little time I dedicate to artistic endeavours. I find myself wanting to create but due to the lack of time and sometimes even imposter syndrome, I avoid creating altogether.

I am still in the process of editing my clip representing the theme: Fragments of Time

And what I have learned thus far is just how messy and exciting video editing is. You go from video clips all over your desktop, splitting clips over and over again, to a really satisfying few seconds.

I have decided to use iMovie to edit and compile my video.

I take my inspiration for this project from video editors on Instagram and TikTok who make the most beautiful clips. Every time a video of theirs lands on my suggested page, I always have to download the videos because I know I want to watch it again at a future time.

People often have very negative things to say about social media, I argue, based on the teachings of this course and personal experiences, that it is all about how you interact with technology.

I am going to be watching this tutorial on YouTube to edit my clip. I have a surface-level comprehension of Imovie tools, and I hope to be more advanced.

Finally, I am considering how to integrate the element of music. I know that there is copyright-free audio on YouTube so that is always a possibility. Although, I am trying to push myself and consider possibly making my own audio or voice memos; I’m not sure yet.

I am learning just how much I enjoy creating content and not being worried about its performance or even if it’s necessarily understood by those who view it. The important thing to me is that I’m engaging in something fulfilling and people are free to make connections to my work in their own intricate way.

These videos bring out something positive within me, they inspire me, and I feel that that is enough of a justification.
