(Craft Based Experiment) – Deeper Dive Inquiry (3 of 4), Documentation of the Learning Process

A major component that I wanted to incorporate in my final project for this course is to embrace new experiences. For the craft component, I am going to be attempting to create a mixed media art piece through photo collage.
This idea stems from an active desire to confront a really harmful comment my 8th-grade art teacher made. I have never been artistically inclined, again, maybe this is something I have convinced myself to believe. The teacher, after seeing a self-portrait I painted of myself, said “Yeah, you should never draw again”
I laughed it off, but to this day that comment has really stuck with me.
At the start of this course, I knew I wanted to create a collage therefore I have been collecting newspapers on campus, collecting stickers, and a friend brought over extra national geographic magazines she had.

I am really looking forward to creating something that represents curation and open licensing.
The video that actually inspired this project is a YouTube short that I somehow stumbled upon. It was incredibly satisfying to see and I knew I wanted to try it as well.
I bought glue, stickers, and a new art journal, and I am excited to try something new!
Similarly to the writing component of my final assignment, I am channelling the idea of being okay with executing it poorly just as long as I am engaging with the project in some fashion.
So far I have learned that there is a method to madness and although I am constantly finding bits of scrap paper in random places in my room, I am starting to enjoy the final project.
Furthermore, I am taking inspiration from pictures on Pinterest!
