(Written Work) – Deeper Dive Inquiry (2 of 4), Documentation of the Learning Process
For my written work element of this project, I have chosen to share my writing on this blog. I am writing a poem related to digital identity.
The pictures above are my journals that hold all my writing. Seeing them laid out this way makes me realize just how important order and routine are for me when it comes to writing. I write in the same type of journal and every time I finish one I have to make sure to get the same one. I only write in black pen, and I admire writing at night. As previously mentioned on my blog, I have been struggling with a writer’s block lately. I have found myself internalizing the need to write poems that fit contemporary standards. I forget that writing is subjective, and that if I change the style that comes naturally to me, then what unique qualities do I have to offer? Maybe it comes from socialization around equating my worth based on my creative output.
To complete this assignment I am using tips from this YouTube video about how to encourage a more sustainable writing process.
Something meaningful I learned from the video is to “write the story poorly”. Brandon Sanderson, a top-selling American fantasy writer, dives into a plethora of tips and tricks and this tip really stood out. I always have ideas but out of a failure to not do it justice, I decide to keep the idea percolating in my mind. For this assignment, I am going to actively work against this.
Furthermore, I am going to draw inspiration from one of my favourite poets, Trivarna Hiriharan, who also shares a plethora of poems and excerpts on her Instagram page.
